My family and I have been watching Downton Abbey. You know, the exceedingly successful British television series produced for PBS Masterpiece. I finished watching the 3rd season over a week ago and let me tell you, I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to watch it at every opportunity. I was sorry when it was over and I am looking forward to season 4.

If you are watching on PBS and do not want to wait for them to dish out one episode at a time, you can click here and watch all of season 1, 2, and 3. But be warned. This is not a program for young children. Although mild, it contains thematic scenes of sex, including homosexuality. But, the overall message is good, as the morals are those of an era where ladies and gentlemen were expected to behave themselves with high moral conduct. I am all for that.

My 15 and 16-year-old daughters have watched Downton Abbey with me, and I think it’s suitable for their age group. The program is not lurid and raunchy like shows on commercial TV (we don’t own a TV, but I’ve seen enough in past years to know that a lot of programming is trashy and not family oriented). You won’t find any offensive (cussing) language in Downton; however, it does plays like a soap opera, and I might add, a riveting one at that. With that said, it is not up to me to determine what your kids watch, it is up to you.

Because of Downton Abbey’s extreme popularity, I have been told that its ratings surpass all previous PBS series, including the much watched documentary “Connections”, with James Burke. Connections was an interesting and informative series about history, which aired in the US in 1979. I enjoyed it a lot and thought it worthy enough to make it required viewing as part of my girls homeschool education.

Not only do I love the documentary “Connections”, I love connections…which is why I’m sharing the following connections with you. My husband and I watched a video on Facebook about the “The Strap and Crap”, which reminded me of my article titled “Connections – One Thing Leads to Another”, which is about connections and how we learned about the PeeMate, a device making it easy (really?) for women to pee outdoors, which brings me full circle back to “The Strap and Crap”, a strap that makes it easy to poop in the outdoors, ( if you could possibly imagine that!).

The video is funny and I think it’s for real, so take a look.
