June in Review – Cycling, Columbia Mountain, Mom Died

June was a flurry of outdoor activity. David and I cycled the Going to the Sun Road from Avalanche to the Loop, and our family hiking jaunts began in regularity. Mallory and Eileen took their first “real” day hike without their parents, and seeing them off was reminiscent of the Big Kids’ first day of kindergarten (Mallory and Eileen have been homeschooled all of their lives and the Big Kids I refer to are our older children; Jared, Janice, and Kyle).

Bears started showing up in our yard, and we were excited to see a moose as we were driving through the valley. We harassed her with picture taking and video until she ran towards the mountains for cover.

June also brought sadness with the news of my 85 year-old mother’s passing. It was a bittersweet time as I relayed the news to relatives whose voices I hadn’t heard in years.
