July in Review – Bean Harvest and Cherry Picking

In July, I seemed to be preoccupied with fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

The garden had taken off and we had a decent crop of green beans for the first time since living in Montana. I pickled 6 quarts of beans and would later process a number of pint jars, as well as stock the freezer with beans.

We picked 40 lbs of Flathead cherries and made jam. A discovery of wild raspberries along Flathead Lake prompted us to consider planting a secret garden.

The girls and I made homemade hot tamales. They were delicious, but time consuming to prepare. I think we’ll make them only once a year.

Summer was in full swing! We hiked to Hidden Lake and took a scenic drive up the Northfork.
