Where to Get Free Popcorn on National Popcorn Day

I was going to talk about the average snowfall statistics in Kalispell as well as tell you that our average annual snowfall is 64.9 inches, that our season to date has only been 29.9 inches, and that our average season to date should be around 36.3. Phew, that was a mouthful!

Also, I was going to reference another article I wrote about a month ago about how quiet it is when it snows.  The Family Circus people know how quiet it is when it snows, too.

All of that sounded very boring, and something much more interesting and important has crossed my desk.  Did you know that it is National Popcorn Day!

Nope, I am not joking. January 19th is National Popcorn Day and it’s one of the hottest searches on the Internet. Guffaw!

To celebrate National Popcorn Day, I am sharing a couple of ways to get FREE popcorn for the occasion.

Of course, this will not help you if you do not live in Kalispell. You will have to scrounge around your own town for free popcorn or buy some and pop it yourself.

Nevertheless, the following will give you some general ideas of where to look for free popcorn.

Free Popcorn Idea Number One

One of the easiest ways to get free popcorn is to patronize a Les Schwab tire store. You don’t have to live in Kalispell for this one, as Les Swab is regional and this idea should work if you live in the neighboring states of Montana.

Simply swap out your seasonal tires, from summer to studded, or vice versa. While you are waiting, have some FREE popcorn and buy yourself a soda to wash it down.

To tell you the truth, I don’t recommend this on January 19th.

It’s a trifle late in the season for studded tires. If you’ve survived the icy roads so far, I wouldn’t bother.

And it’s way too early to change to summer tires. No telling what’s around the corner in the weather department and we have all the way until May 31st  to remove our studs.

Okay, let’s move on to the next idea.

Free Popcorn Idea Number Two

Another option is to visit the “helpful hardware man” also known as an Ace Hardware store. You probably have something to repair that you have been putting off.

National Popcorn Day is a great time to take care of it and to visit the hardware store. FREE popcorn and coffee are always available to patrons and the people there are always nice.

Free Popcorn Idea Number Three

This next idea is my favorite. To take advantage of it, you need to travel out in the middle of nowhere. Therefore it may take some planning to appreciate it.

If you find yourself passing through Mitchell, South Dakota, you should stop at the Corn Palace. The entire exterior of the building is decorated with ears of corn.

Each year the facade is stripped down and a new mural is created. Click over for some pictures.

The Corn Palace is pretty cool and a fun stop for all. And yes, it’s FREE to visit the Corn Palace.

Don’t pass it up, or you will always wonder what you missed.
